Bill Barr is trying to clean up his soiled reputation.  He got into bed with an antidemocratic criminal and carried his water for years as AG.  "I had no idea he would go off the rails".  There were never any rails Mr. Barr.

Actually, I thought Barr was a very honest and grounded guy and his immediate rejection of Trump and his agenda to overturn the election was more evidence of that.
