Ya know mm, it's been a while since I skipped one of these ,but just couldn't stomach any more BS and self praise about themselves and their accomplishments.

Sure , it aint easy running a country but they could do so much better of a job if the Parties forgot the parties and made more efforts to serve the country and its citizenry as I think they swore to do.

Im dreaming but I m disgusted too.

Wow, joj I've told you numerous times that we need your views here.

Sorry if you took it personal. I removed the offending comment for you.

I like the state of the union address tradition.  It is a celebration of our democracy.

Biden didn't look like a senile old man to me.

He looked like he was enjoying himself alternating between highlighting the bipartisan themes (lowering drug costs) and the contrasts in policy (free and fair elections).

I particularly enjoyed the Jedi mind trick he pulled on the roudy Republicans when he said, without mentioning        (R) Rick Scott's name, that "some Republicans are interested in raising the age for Medicare".  Many started booing and heckling, including Margery Taylor Greene, who yelled out "LIAR" repeatedly.  Biden took the opening and rammed right through it saying, "Great.  We agree to not touch the medicare promised for seniors".  At that point both Dems and Republicans stood and applauded.  (Yes Obi-Wan, we will not touch Medicare).   :)

Ironically, that is something that I would personally adjust by raising the age to 67 or maybe even 70 because people are livinng longer and it is busting the budget.  (see... I am fiscally conservative)

I thought he balanced the need for police support and accountability:

"These guys risk their lives every day when they put on the badge."

and then mentioned the injustice that needs reform by introducing the parents of Tyre Nichols.

There is no "Defund the police" policy in this administration not withstanding the constant lying by the GOP about it.

I always like when a US president talks about the possibility of America and hits optimistic notes.  Biden did.

I would prefer if presidents kept it to 45 minutes.  Much of the stuff Biden was pitching has zero chance of passing with divided government.

What was your impression MM?

Thanks, joj.

You were exactly right in chastising me for my conversation stifling comment.

People are obviously tethered to their political affiliations here but you in particular have shown a willingness to acknowledge both sides and being objective at times and I'm sorry for offending you.

To be honest, I was being cynical about an anticipation of  negative comments(not from you), some of which have floated around in my head related to Biden's energy policies.

I'm especially glad that you were able to overlook that and come back with some good comments and teach me the best lesson I've had in awhile.

With regards to this event.

I never followed politics  this closely until becoming moderator here........when Trump was president. My wife doesn't like it that I flip back and forth between CNN and Fox every weekday evening and probably more CNN outside of that for news(ABC for local and national nightly news too)....when I get to control the clicker.  She  dislikes the divisiveness and hate associated with politics but can't help being exposed to it when that's what her husband has on.

What the both of us will always remember about this event was when Nancy Pelosi ripped up President Trump's script in 2020 as a blatant display of disdain and divisiveness for the leader of our country in front of the entire world.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty92wz0K-CM

So this is why I agreed with John earlier. It's a wonderful event when YOUR party is the speaker and YOUR party is the cheering section. More like a pep rally for one team only. The other party feels the exact opposite.

I had to leave early last night but my wife actually stayed tuned for the rebuttal  and stated that it was excellent.

I'll go easy on Biden here on this page.

I really like his position on health care and drug prices. He did a nice job discussing police reform with both parties agreeing with him on several things.

It was good for him to apparently be finally recognizing that there's a crisis at the Southern Border. Let's hope that the words are backed up with smarter decisions and actions because he IS responsible for much of the current problem.

On uniting both parties. He sounded good on that in the beginning but then his speech blamed the previous administration and republicans for numerous things which completely contradicted those hollow words...........making them meaningless. He made it clear if legislation from republicans that he disagrees with  gets to his desk he was going to veto it so it would be a waste of their time. Talk about divisive.

I've had a beef with Biden for 2 years based on his extremely counterproductive and deceptive position on fossil fuels.

However, for those actually paying close attention, Biden has made an incredible adjustment to his previous extreme anti fossil fuel position.

2 years ago it was "read my lips, no new drilling" and "no more fossil fuels".

Last night, it was "we need fossil fuels for the next decade and probably longer than that"

Not mentioned last night(because it wouldn't have played to his crowd) is the fact that he's authorizing NEW drilling for oil in Alaska. US natural gas supplies have been gushing in at a record pace since late last Summer and is filling up storage. This is the complete opposite of what he campaigned on. I really think that he woke up and sees the light on this but of course has to tread lightly on the large part of his party that believes in the fake climate crisis and wants to rid the world of fossil fuels ASAP.

Honestly, he has no choice. The fake green energy promises on paper that defied the laws of physics, energy and economics that his side has been using to fuel the fraudulent funding of all these green projects is extremely underperforming and coming in much more costly than any promises and actually wrecking the planet. There was never a chance that it would do what they claimed. NEVER! So it's good to see him adjusting before he completely destroys our energy delivery system which is the life blood of every developed countries economy.

1 more comment about him from last night on the next page because it goes off on a climate crisis thing.

President Biden, last night stated that last year( 2022) featured a record number of wildfires, from the southern border to Canada and this is absolute proof of what global warming is doing.

Fact: The long lived NATURAL La Nina in the tropical Pacific.......cold water anomalies is what caused this(related to the natural drought). This is also what caused the temporary cooling (global warming pause).

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/91540/

Actually, the last time we had global warming was when President Obama was in office and the drought, which was the biggest factor in the increase in the wildfires was caused by the exact opposite pattern as global warming.

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/92795/

With the La Nina finally dying quickly this year, I feel that the slight, mostly beneficial warming to the planet will resume and the area of drought in the US will be reduced, as well as less wildfires, especially if we have an El Nino that will enhance the global warming as it belches out heat from the tropical Pacific..

Despite his actions and some words showing that he's softened up his extreme anti fossil fuel position, this statement last night was vintage Biden telling a big fat lie about the fake climate crisis.

His touting of the fake inflation reduction act is a problem too. There's some good things in the bill but it's mostly just the climate bill, renamed, because we have inflation. The new name tricks people into supporting it. If the country's biggest problem was bird poop-they would have named it the bird poop reduction act (-:

Regardless it's still flushing many billions of dollars down the tube, chasing fairy tale green energy schemes based on crony capitalism and politics causing more inflation(especially from higher energy costs) while REDUCING our country's energy security.

++++++++++++++

Think about this

If, overnight we could reverse the so called damaging global warming that Biden referred to last night, which is +1 Deg C the last century and take out the additional 120 parts per million of CO2 built up from fossil fuel emissions during that time, over the following 3 years, 1 billion people would starve to death because of the massive reduction in food production.

The biggest risk to humans and life on this planet would be if somebody invents an effective  method to take CO2 out of the air and uses it to reduce the level substantially.

In addition, if we eliminated fossil fuels completely overnight, which would mean no more synthetic fertilizer, an additional 1-2 billion people would starve to death in a matter of years.

Food prices would go to unimaginable levels and only the richest people on the planet could afford to eat.

Another secret about fossil fuels: Haber Bosch process-fertilizers feeding the planet using natural gas-doubling food production/crop yields. September 2019

Life without petroleum based products: 6,000 products made with petroleum.  Killing Coal. Fossil fuels and fertilizer. Biden praises high gasoline prices.
https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/84689/

I'm thrilled to see Biden soften his position against fossil fuels and make some smart adjustments that are good for our country's future but he's still got a lot of fork tongue fake climate crisis words and policies that need to go if the US is to prosper.

Keep in mind that cheap, reliable energy is what drives every developed country's economy, so it's not just a scientist thing for me. We need a leader that understands that for the US to prosper.

China's leader understands it completely.

Chinese Coal-based Power Plants

Ironically, the US has 24% of the worlds known coal reserves, far more than any other country.  How crazy is it to let China eat our lunch in something that is one of our strongest assets??

If China kicks our butts with better energy delivery to their economy/citizens,  they will  have an enormous advantage that can't be overcome, regardless of what political posturing takes place.

I was just watching Fox and they were doing a lot of their usual biased attacking of Biden based on bunk but they played a clip of Biden last night that I completely missed which really caught my attention.

Biden claimed that the attack on Paul Pelosi was an example of an attack on our democracy.

This is what happened:

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/92581/#92585

Our president actually had the audacity to use this isolated case, where Paul Pelosi (who really was attacked by a mentally ill lunatic and Pelosi really was a victim) was so messed up that he turned off the alarm to his private security company after it went off during the break in  and didn't  use the panic button and didn't make sense during the 911 call.......as an example of the attack on our democracy during his State of the Union address?

That was pure, one sided, divisive political hogwash. The only thing that an objective person could use to spin that as not being extremely negative to the Biden mentality  is that it probably came from a speech writer……but then, the speech writer isn't accountable to the American people!

Also on the plus side, President Biden seemed very lucid during the entire speech!

Other comments are very welcome, regardless of whether they are biased or political.

Your wife liked the rebuttal by Sarah Huckabee Sanders?

Interesting.  I decided to read it.  Whereas Biden went back and forth between themes of bipartisanship on the one hand and highlighting the contrast between the parties on the other hand, Sanders was only attacking Biden and the Democrats as responsible for everything that is bad.  Not a single word of finding common ground.

Here is the transcript.

joj,

Thanks for that, I still hadn't seen or read it.

I see exactly what you mean!

Huckabee: ”The dividing line in America is no longer between right or left. “The choice is between normal or crazy. “

This one would have made me laugh out loud but Geraldo on Hannity's show last night already tipped me off.

Before Geraldo came on, I told my wife to hold the conversation because I never want to miss what he says. He's the Libertarian from Fox that sometimes brings sanity to Hannity during their programming. Last night, Tucker and Hannity were on a rampage with a mix of mostly crazy points mixed in with a few good ones.

Geraldo asked Hannity if Marjorie Greene was one of the normal's or crazy ones.

Sean Hannity Ducks Geraldo Rivera's Question About ‘Crazy Or Normal’ Marjorie Taylor Greene

https://www.yahoo.com/news/sean-hannity-swerves-geraldo-riveras-102628750.html

My wife asked me who she was and I filled her in.

In the dictionary, under "crazy" they should have a picture of Marjorie Greene (-:

Her and a few other republicans in office, claim to believe that:

1. Their guy won the 2020 presidential election despite every legit source of info indisputably proving he lost in the most scrutinized and shown to be secure US presidential election in US history.

2. The COVID vax harms more people than it helps

There's actually enough more on that to write a book here. Trump is the leader of the crazies and he was the president.

Most Republicans still falsely believe Trump’s stolen election claims. Here are some reasons why.

In poll after poll, about 70% of Republicans say they don’t think Joe Biden is the legitimate winner of the 2020 election.

Among the other stuff running around in her head and coming out of Margarie Taylor Greene's mouth:

Mass shootings of children never happened.  It's a false flag to attack the 2nd Amendment.

California wildfires were started by Jewish space lasers from outer space.

The Clintons killed JFK jr.

9-11 never happened.

She says that if she ran things on Jan 6th "we would have won".

The first openly pro-Qanon person elected to congress has been elevated by speaker McCarthy to the intelligence committee where she will have access to classified information.

Regarding Qanon she said, "the internet made me believe it."

To her credit, she took it all back. (DO OVER!)   Well, that's a relief.  (sarcasm)
