Wow, the price of border walls sure has gone up compared to the old days under Obama (-:

I think that Congress should investigate this. Surely Trump is in cahoots with somebody here and giving kick backs or doing something illegal. An investigation will  get to the bottom of it (-:

Really what this means is that Trump should be asking for 10 times the amount of money that he's asking for........considering the going rates for building needed border walls today(-:

This also means that we MUST re elect him because it will take another 4 years of him in office to get this money from Mexico(-:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-21/federal-wall-funding-of-1-57-billion-yields-1-7-miles-of-fence?fbclid=IwAR1SL6p-3PULogBB9_5F0vQzAWH2BDiJC06uuCqxxPwMbDBuVUtImADWAJQ

Based on that updated information, it appears that CBP has now constructed 1.7 miles of fencing with its fiscal year 2018 funding."

That includes 14 miles of new and updated wall panels near San Diego, which is expected to be finished early next year, and 13 miles of new construction in the Rio Grande Valley. It’s not clear when that part will be finished.

Contracts also have been awarded for 41 miles of new wall to replace pedestrian fencing in San Diego and Calexico, California, and Yuma, Arizona, which should be completed late next year, according to the report. Another 12 miles of new wall in the Rio Grande Valley requires additional consulting with local officials, the report said.

Well, that should go a long way towards handling the Emergency.

Yes, much better to follow the democrats plan for the "emergency/crisis, which is to.............let the people in.

Dems  position: C'mon world, we are the most generous country in the world. All you need to do is come, without invitation or legal application or reason, other than we will give you lots of stuff that you can't get in your country.(-:

If it's better here than where you live.............c'mon to our place and enjoy our stuff. We only have 330 million people and have plenty more room for a few hundred million more. We guarantee you with 100% certainty, that if you come here, things WILL BE better then where you are(-:

As a bonus and special offer. If you are criminal, we don't do background checks and if you commit a crime here, we have these places called "Santuary Cities" just for you.  Worse case, maybe we will send you back................but then, you can just cross back over the border to our country again and start all over committing crimes until you get caught.......or don't get caught(-:

Mike, you aren’t normally one to engage in hyperbole. Can you supply links to support all that ?

.Sorry, Mike, but Trump is the one who wanted to let them in, when he threatened to send them to sanctuary cities.

You didn't address the issue of how long it's taking to solve the fence "emergency". Emergencies require immediate action.

At least the Democrats are honest enough to recognize that it's not a fence problem but a humanitarian problem. That problem can be solved by hiring more staff and creating adequate detention centers ... a lot quicker than building fences.

And please can you give me the name of a Democratic Senator or Congressman who advocates open borders?

No,, that's what the smiley faces are for because it's either hyperbole or trying to be funny. What's going on at the southern border can be described as either very sad or a big joke.

Today, I'm using "big joke" and responding appropriately to the misleading story that started this thread. I had the smiley faces on all the comments on the first post and forgot to add them on the 2nd post.

Here are the links that you would like to see which describe it as very sad and deserving of the wall that the democrats are fighting against:

carl,

As noted to mcfarmer, the previous 2 posts were mostly hyperbole in response to this topic that, one can describe as turning into a big joke because of our politicians refusal to address it properly.

With regards to democrats position on the southern border and immigration, I don't know of any that are suggesting 330,000,000 come in as I joked about but we do know with certainty, that the position of the democrats has drastically shifted:

From NPR:

Democrats Have Reversed Their Opinion On Immigrants Since 1994

https://www.npr.org/2019/02/19/694804917/democrats-used-to-talk-about-criminal-immigrants-so-what-changed-the-party

There's one final explanation for the Democrats' shift, and that's the influence of immigration activists.

"You have political figures adopting the activists' agenda and the activists' language," said Muñoz, who worked in the Obama White House. "Political leaders who are listening to them are focusing only on some pieces of the issue where the activism is most vocal ... for example, immigration enforcement."

She says that means other important issues, such as reforming the legal immigration process, don't receive as much attention.

But the challenge in navigating a comprehensive debate is multi-faceted. Like nearly every political issue these days, Democrats agree the intensity around the immigration debate has ratcheted up in direct response to President Trump."

If you support sanctuary cities,  you support open borders.  The two positions are nearly indistinguishable.

If you disagree, then you also support the idea that you can oppose bank robberies  but only if the thiefs are caught in the act of robbing the bank. Once they've gotten away, the money is theirs.
