APRIL THRU JAN. 2023... I BOUGHT ENOUGH "PREPPER" STAPLES TO LAST FOR 3-4 YEARS.  SINCE JAN. '24, I'VE ONLY PURCHASED MORE WHEN THEY GO ON SALE FOR WHAT I'D PAID FOR THEM MONTHS TO A YEAR EARLIER...WHICH IS ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. NEEDLESS TO SAY... I BUY VERY FEW GROCERIES, OTHER THAN DAIRY & BREAD.

PRIME EXAMPLE.. I PURCHASED A LOT OF PASTA, WHILE IT WAS $1.00 A POUND.  (PASTA NEVER GOES BAD.)  WHAT I PAID $1.00 FOR (CREAMETTE), HAS NEVER GONE BACK ON SALE FOR $1.00. IT GOES ON SALE FOR 3/$4.00  HOW MUCH INFLATION IS THAT??? REMEMBER BIDENOMICS IS WORKING.   NOTHING I BOUGHT OVER A YEAR AGO, HAS GONE ON SALE FOR LESS THEN I PAID.

I'VE GOT PLENTY OF CANNED SALMON, TUNA & SARDINES, BUT... I WATCH FOR THEM TO GO ON SALE.  $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$  LOL

Thanks, Jean.

If only our politicians had a smidgen of that mentality!

AK and HI are the 2 states with low inflation but its likely that prices were already some of the highest there to start with.

Retail food price inflation varied across U.S. metro areas in 2023

Food Inflation in the United States (1968-2024)

https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/food-inflation-in-the-united-states/

Food inflation from this source MUCH less than the previous source. I do ALL the grocery shopping for our family. Food inflation where I shopped the past 12 months was NOT just 2.2%.

I WONDER WHAT HOLE BOTH OF THOSE INFLATION LINKS PULLED THEIR NUMBERS OUT OF.  SURELY, THEY DON'T BELIEVE THEMSELVES.  LOL  SEEMS TO ME, THEY BOTH CAME OUT OF THE SAME "BEN DOVER" HOLE.

I STOPPED BUYING GROUND BEEF WHEN IT WENT OVER $2.99.  NOW, IT'S ON SALE FOR $3.99. ABOUT ONCE A YEAR. LOL

THERE AIN'T NOTHIN' THAT HAS ONLY INCREASED 2-3%

LOL  I DON'T MIND, MIKE.  I WAS HESITANT ON WHERE TO POST, IN THE 1ST PLACE.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE... TOWNHOUSE CRACKERS.  I ALWAYS BOUGHT THEM @ $2.50 (ON SALE)  THIS YEAR, THEY GO ON SALE FOR $3.50. IF MY HEAD CALCULATOR IS CHARGED UP... I BELIEVE THAT'S A TAD MORE THAN A 2% RATE OF INCREASE.

I'VE ALWAYS PAID ATTENTION TO THE CRB. WITH YOUR POSTED GRAPHS... THEY'RE A LESSON IN HISTORY, IF YA CAN REMEMBER WHAT GOIN' ON HERE & ROUND THE WORLD.  THANK YOU.

EDIT:  ANOTHER PRIME EXAMPLE... I ALWAYS PAID $1.99 A LB. FOR A WHOLE BONELESS SMOKED HAM.  NOW, I'M LUCKY TO FIND THAT SAME HAM ON SALE FOR $2.99.  LOL  NEEDLESS TO SAY: "I'M HAPPY I DON'T NEED ANY.  HAHAHAHHAAA"

Thanks very much, Jean!

Couldn't agree more with your "real person in the real store experiences on this"

10 lbs of chicken leg quarters at Walmart used to be $5.90 for years, until 3 years ago.

Now, when they have them it's $8.72. That's a 48% increase in 3 years.

Eggs are up 250% vs 3 years ago at Walmart. For some odd reason, Schnucks, that used to be the highest priced eggs are now the lowest price!

Jumbo eggs were .89 and now are $3.10

Here's that link again, telling us that food inflation was just +2.2% the past 12 months. Granted, the prices I noted above MOSTLY increased BEFORE the past 12 months but the food inflation facts that they told us about the previous 2 years, never added up to the REAL STORE experiences that us consumers have had during those 3 years.

https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/food-inflation-in-the-united-states/

10.4% food inflation in 2022, for instance is easily their highest number. That's a big number but the mind boggling price increases that you and I witnessed with our eyes and brains far exceeded that number.

LOL (THO' FAR FROM FUNNY!) AND... WHY IS IT THAT  ENERGY & FOOD PRICES ARE LEFT OUT OF THE COLA?  YOU & I KNOW WHY.. ARE WE THE ONLY ONES?  LOL

"THEY" USE THE EXCUSE OF: "OH, THEY'RE TOO VOLATILE TO CALCULATE."  DUH. ARE PEOPLE REALLY THAT STUPID?  (DON'T ANSWER THAT... THE SPEECH POLICE WILL SILENCE YOU.)

SAME AS FOOD COSTS... EVEN ONCE A MONTH, ALL YA GOTTA DO IS; SIMPLE MATH! CHOOSE 12 RANDOM FOOD ITEMS, KEEP TRACK OF THE WEEKLY CHANGES...DIVIDE THAT TOTAL BY 4 & YA GET THAT MONTHS' INFLATION FIGURES. AT THE END OF A YEAR... ADD THOSE MONTHLY FIGURES TOGETHER & DIVIDE THAT FIGURE BY 12. THERE'S THE YEARLY INFLATION NUMBER. (I'VE DONE THAT SINCE 2022. THE # IS AVERAGING 35% INFLATION.)

THE GOVT. DON'T WANT THE "PEOPLE" TO KNOW THE TRUTH...THEY DEPEND ON THE "SHEEPLE".

DOES THE GOVT. ADJUST FOOD STAMPS?  IF SO...WHY?

EDIT: ON A DIFFERENT NOTE GASOLINE AT THE PUMP, JUMPED 50 CENTS A GALLON, TODAY....THE HIGHEST ONE DAY JUMP IN 10 YEARS+, SINCE I'VE BEEN KEEPIN' TRACK

Thanks, Jean!

shopped at Walmart yesterday. Most prices were the same nbut Jumbo eggs were $1.23 a dozen!!

Less than half the recent price. What the heck??

Meyers, 3 miles away was 3.89 and they only they’ve only had  the cage free eggs for the last month.

clearly they use different suppliers but that’s an insane difference.
I eat 6+ egg whites every morning with breakfast. used to be 12 in my body building days)and shop around for the best egg prices.

zduring and before COVID, walmart always had really cheap eggs like this.

would be interesting to understand why.

MIKE... BELIEVE ME ON THIS.  IF YOU GET A GOOD PRICE ON EGGS & SEEIN' AS HOW MANY YOU GO THRU...THERE'S A TRICK TO KEEPING EGGS FRESH FOR MONTHS AT A TIME.

TURN THEM OVER EVERY DAY OR EVERY OTHER DAY. (JUST TURN THE ENTIRE CARTON UPSIDE DOWN)  MY GRANDMA TAUGHT ME THAT TRICK. SHE HAD HER OWN EGG BUSINESS WHEN SHE WAS IN HER LATE TEENS THRU HER EARLY 30'S. (SHE WAS BORN IN 1884)

I STILL DO THAT & THEY'RE STILL FRESH FOR 2-3 MONTHS. I FINALLY CONVINCED MY SISTER TO DO THAT, 'CAUSE THEY BAKE FOR A FARMER'S MARKET...AND, GO THRU A SLEW OF EGGS.

TRY IT... YA MIGHT LIKE IT
