Planting of U.S. #corn & #soybeans is faster than normal, and corn is about at the halfway point while spring #wheat is slower than last year & avg. Winter wheat in 44% poor/very poor condition is the worst for the week since 1996 and the worst for any week since 2014.

At 24% complete on May 7, U.S. spring #wheat planting was the 4th slowest for the date after 2011, 1997 & 1995. Recent 5-yr avg is 38%. The mid-90s delays were relatively worse as the 1990-1994 avg for May 7 was 67%. The 1980s avg wasn't much lower at 63%.

May 12: Most-active CBOT #soyoil futures trade below 50 cents/lb for the first time since April 13, 2021, and the close of 49.52 is the lowest since March 1, 2021. That is 40% below the year-ago price, which was 80+ cents/lb.
