SAN FRANCISCO -- Payments of $5 million to every eligible Black adult, the elimination of personal debt and tax burdens, guaranteed annual incomes of at least $97,000 for 250 years and homes in San Francisco for just $1 a family.
These were some of the more than 100 recommendations made by a city-appointed reparations committee tasked with the thorny question of how to atone for centuries of slavery and systemic racism. And the San Francisco Board of Supervisors hearing the report for the first time Tuesday voiced enthusiastic support for the ideas listed, with some saying money should not stop the city from doing the right thing.
Several supervisors said they were surprised to hear pushback from politically liberal San Franciscans apparently unaware that the legacy of slavery and racist policies continues to keep Black Americans on the bottom rungs of health, education and economic prosperity, and overrepresented in prisons and homeless populations.
“Those of my constituents who lost their minds about this proposal, it's not something we’re doing or we would do for other people. It’s something we would do for our future, for everybody's collective future,” said Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, whose district includes the heavily LGBTQ Castro neighborhood.

Was listening to NPR, as I always do on weekday afternoons in my car.
They had an interview with a reporter from the San Francisco Chronicle on the reparations scheme.
The reporter was pretty emphatic about the need for African American reparations and several times, accused people that disagreed with him as being racists.
He stated that he was shocked at how many racists there are living in San Francisco. Even people from the left that he never imagined were racists.
Most of them, he said had the position that they didn't do anything to hurt blacks, so why should they pay for something that happened centuries ago.
According to his definition, they are racists.

Patti said: "Maybe the other families in Africa that were left behind, still living there today in poverty and no hope should file a class action lawsuit against the United States for leaving them behind!"
I totally understand the atrocity of what we did to those poor people in capturing them and turning them into slaves a few centuries ago.
But if you want to properly assess the legit damage to the lives of their ancestors TODAY, in an honest, objective, non political, non racist way...........you have to compare THEIR lives to what it would be like for them if that didn't happen.

but that’s much different than black slaves which was the epitome of heinous discrimination.

however, there are several mitigating factors.
1. they were following the laws. They were raised and taught that this was ok. It’s complete ignorance today to think that they should have known better. There was nothing but fraudulent human rights information for these people.slavery was accepted at some point in time in almost every country.
2. the loss Of the freedom their distant ancestors had in Africa was tremendous and lasted for XXX number of years. At some point, the life of a black person living in the US became better than the life of an average African. This was a long time ago.
3. since then, there have been mainly benefits for blacks in the US compared to living in Africand the benefits have only increased with time.
the current generation of blacks in the US is enjoying tremendous benefits today at the expense of the awful slavery their ancestors were subjected to.
the people that caused the harm and suffered the harm died a very long time ago at a time when that harm was acceptable by the standards of that age.
the people of todays age are causing blacks to have a much better life and almost any opportunity they want compared to living in Africa.
we should be congratulating society for the tremendous progress and continue to build on it ….as things Are not perfect.
