From WUWT:

Sea Level Alarmism Unravels As Earth’s Coastlines Are Observed Expanding Since 1984

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/11/19/sea-level-alarmism-unravels-as-earths-coastlines-are-observed-expanding-since-1984/

Despite sea level rise, 1984-2019 satellite data show coastlines have been globally expanding by a net +0.26 m/year.

A new study affirms what satellite data have been telling us for years: “the global coastline is prograding” (Mao et al., 2021).

Growing islands, beaches, coasts “all over the world”

This isn’t the first time shoreline expansion in the era of global warming and allegedly rapid sea level rise has been documented.

A 2019 global-scale analysis of 709 islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans revealed 89% were either stable or growing in size, and that no island larger than 10 ha (and only 1.2% of islands larger than 5 ha) had decreased in size since the 1980s (Duvat, 2019).

Likewise, the globe’s beaches been growing by 0.33 m/year since 1984 (Luijendijk et al., 2018).

In apress release for a 2016 paper on coastal land area changes from 1985 to 2015, scientists acknowledged this:

“We expected that the coast would start to retreat due to sea level rise, but the most surprising thing is that the coasts are growing all over the worldBBC

“Accretion is the dominant trend…across the world”

Today there are high resolution satellite images available from Google Earth clearly demarcating global-scale decadal shoreline change since the 1980s.

According to Mao and colleagues, Australia’s coasts have been growing at a rate of +0.10 m/year. Asia’s coasts have been expanding +0.64 m/year. Europe’s coasts are accreting +0.45 m/year. And the African continent has been observed expanding at a +0.31 m/year clip since 1984.

The only two continents where coasts have not been observed expanding in recent decades are South America, 0.00 m/year, and North America, -0.29 m/year.

Claims of dangerously accelerating sea level rise posing an imminent global threat to coasts have once again been challenged by real-world observational evidence.

Let me remind everyone of what the United Nations has been predicting for over 3 decades about coastal areas and been really wrong every single year.

We live in a world of manufactured realities that just keep getting repeated until people who want to believe in it...........DO BELIEVE in it!

U.N. Predicts Disaster if Global Warming Not Checked

PETER JAMES SPIELMANN  June 29, 1989

https://www.apnews.com/bd45c372caf118ec99964ea547880cd0

UNITED NATIONS (AP) _ A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.

Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of ″eco- refugees,′ ′ threatening political chaos, said Noel Brown, director of the New York office of the U.N. Environment Program, or UNEP.

He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control.

As the warming melts polar icecaps, ocean levels will rise by up to three feet, enough to cover the Maldives and other flat island nations, Brown told The Associated Press in an interview on Wednesday.

Coastal regions will be inundated; one-sixth of Bangladesh could be flooded, displacing a fourth of its 90 million people. A fifth of Egypt’s arable land in the Nile Delta would be flooded, cutting off its food supply, according to a joint UNEP and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency study.

″Ecological refugees will become a major concern, and what’s worse is you may find that people can move to drier ground, but the soils and the natural resources may not support life. Africa doesn’t have to worry about land, but would you want to live in the Sahara?″ he said."

MM,

I remain agnostic on all of this.  I'm interested in your comments on the wiki link about Whatsupwiththat (WUWT).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watts_Up_With_That%3F

My wish is that those on both sides of the debate could agree on which data sources are reliable and then proceed with the debate.

Glad that you asked joj.

That site is a gold mine(since you love gold (-: ) for great studies, articles, links and data supported with solid science regarding objective climate science.

However, like with panning for gold, you have to sift thru dirt sometimes to identify the highly valued articles and comments.

There are often hundreds of comments after some articles and no screening process that only allows authentic science in.........so some of the comments are REAL DENIER comments. People that think humans have no role in global warming. Or don't believe in the physics of greenhouse gas warming from CO2.

Detractors can site that sort of thing to condemn everything they have....which is what detractors always do.........and it causes them to completely miss all the GOLD.....some huge gold nuggets that appear on a regular basis in fact.

I'm willing to sift thru alot of dirt to get scientific gold!

As an atmospheric scientist, I will always vet anything that I bring over here from WUWT but they are easily the #1 resource in the world for wonderful, authentic OBJECTIVE climate science..........even in the midst of having many very biased articles and many, many biased posts below the articles.

Frequently, posters there will post links to wonderful data sources and studies. Since they literally have thousands of posts/comments under articles/week there, I will, much of the time........ just scroll thru the comments  and not read any of the posters actual comments and do nothing but just hit all the links to data, studies, graphs or evidence. That's really all I care about anyway......not what people say(unless they are accurately stating/interpreting the data).

That's where the true science gold is at WUWT.

The value of authentic science from good sources of data is.........worth more than all the money in the world!

Given the choice between being rich and ignorant or being poor but enlightened with truth and knowledge...........I'll take the later almost every time.
