Odds of being killed

For fun, the rest of the week, each day  I will ask you to decide between 2 killer risks.....which one is more likely to end your life:

Are you more likely to be killed by:

1. An Asteroid?

 or

2. By a hailstorm?

For extra credit, guess what the odds are of each of those happening. Hint, its less than 1 in 100 and greater than 1 in 1,000,000,000,000 which is 1 in a trillion.

I can't resist....

An asteroid could have devastating effects.  Didn't one kill the dinosaurs?  But I've seen a lot more hail storms than catastrophic, or even fairly minor asteroid strikes.   So, even if the chances are slim,  a hail storm has to be the bigger risk.

I've got a question …

What are the odds of a lib ( carl ) and a con ( Tim ) agreeing on something ?

Higher than many would think  :-)

Excellent question Carl!

Maybe I should ask a new question. If a 10 mile wide asteroid strikes the earth, will Carl or Tim care about their difference of opinion?

Known impact craters below

World map in equirectangular projection of the craters on the Earth Impact Database as of November 2017 (in the SVG file, hover over a crater to show its details)

Looking at the map, provides a massive clue with regards to the answer to the original question.

If a 10 mile wide asteroid were to strike

It wouldn't be something I could  like.

If I were some how able to survive,

Would I really care to be alive.

All of our every day problems would go,

And the weather would be our greatest foe.

Wonderful Poem Carl. I loved it!

Here's one from me:

Al Gore tells us lots of crazy climate  things

All the while his pocket book goes ka-ching

If his exaggerations don't work the 1st and 2nd time

He makes them even bigger until they get sublime

His most recent one involves hail hitting you on the head

The size of small asteroids that will strike you dead

The chances a person will be killed by an asteroid are 1 in 200,000, which is much higher than the odds of being killed by hail, which is 1 in 734,000,000.

... if I am reading this correctly.... an asteroid strike

... dead is dead

P.S.     we have poets here ... just want to make that clear... now putting a ribeye on the grill to sear... uh-oh a hail

storm  is a-near... I am starting to run before I can get off my rear... have no fear I will spill no beer...
