The latest news Tuesday: What we know about the Boulder shooting
BOULDER, Colo. — Ten people were killed Monday, including a police officer, when a gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, the second mass shooting in the U.S. in a week.
"These were people going about their day, doing their shopping," Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty said at a late-night press briefing. He described the day's events as "a tragedy and a nightmare."
The police officer who died was identified as Eric Talley, 51, an 11-year veteran on the Boulder force. Talley was responding to the King Soopers grocery market when he was gunned down. His police chief, Maris Herold, appeared to be choking back tears as she spoke to the media Monday night and confirmed the death toll.
"I have to tell you [of] the heroic action of this officer when he responded at the scene," Herold said, explaining the Boulder Police Department got a call about shots fired early in the afternoon. "Officer Talley responded to the scene – he was the first on the scene – and he was fatally shot.
"My heart goes out to the victims of this incident and I am grateful to the police officers that responded," she said. "And I am so sorry about the loss of Officer Talley."

Guess who would be blamed if they were still president (-:
"There were 41 mass shootings during the eight year Obama administration. So far during Trump's presidency there have been 20. That means there were about 5.1 mass shootings a year when Obama was president compared to roughly 7.9 a year under Trump."

metmike: based on both of them using THE word invasion................to describe the INVASION(which is exactly what it was, is and always will be when it takes place in this manner) on our southern border ):
The United States saw two mass shootings in the span of 24 hours. At least one of them appears to have been inspired by Donald Trump.

A flurry of tweets about the Boulder shooter being a "white male" is sparking backlash after law enforcement officials released the suspect's identity on Tuesday.
After a gunman opened fire in a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, and killed 10 people on Monday, a series of tweets about the shooting preemptively assumed the suspect to be a white male, connecting him to a trend found among mass shootings in America.
However, Boulder police identified the suspect as Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, a 21-year-old from a nearby Denver suburb, who is not white.
Some Twitter users were quick to comment on the fact that the shooter was taken into police custody unharmed, arguing that the suspect would not have received the same treatment if he were a person of color. Others suggested that the motive from the shooting stemmed from entitlement.
Among these users was Meena Harris, niece of Vice President Kamala Harris. Shortly after news of the Boulder shooting broke, Harris wrote in a now-deleted tweet, "The Atlanta shooting was not even a week ago. Violent white men are the greatest terrorist threat to our country."
Studies show that white men disproportionately commit mass shootings. A recent analysis by Statista found that white shooters accounted for more than half of the suspects in the 121 mass shootings that occurred between 1982 and this year. However, the suspect from Monday's tragedy was not white."
metmike: Since whites make up between 61-77% of the population(depending on how the stat is derived), that last statistic is misleading.

In one of these posts it says..."There were 41 mass shootings during the eight year Obama administration. So far during Trump's presidency there have been 20. That means there were about 5.1 mass shootings a year when Obama was president compared to roughly 7.9 a year under Trump."
This number for Trump was calculated on Aug 16, 2019, and extrapolated to 2020
What counts as a "mass shooting" varies greatly from source to source. Wikipedia gives us these stats....
2018 323 mass shootings
2019 434 mass shootings
2020 (the year of anarchy) 615 mass shootings.
The average for these 3 Trump years is then 457/year
For 2021, they show already 107 mass shootings. Extrapolating this would come to 476/year. But it's too early to talk about the "Biden years"
Thanks Gunter,
Even though we still have people blaming Trump for some of these shootings.
(maybe we should go back to Reagan (-: )

But seriously, there is no rational reason to not have stricter gun control laws and background checks, as well as to ban assault weapons.
