“As everyone is aware, there is a crisis taking place on the southern border right now,” he said. “It is a humanitarian crisis and it is absolutely a border security crisis. We are not seeing numbers anywhere near what they’re seeing on the southern border, but we’re seeing some similar trends.”

Up-close look at Border Patrol planes flying migrants from the southern border

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/inside-look-at-border-patrol-flying-detainees-away-from-the-southern-border-for-processing/

These flights, operated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for Border Patrol, are expected to become more regular as border numbers grow. On Friday, around 100 migrants were flown from the Rio Grande Valley to San Diego for processing.

But the flights come at a price, to the tune of around $20,000 to $60,000 each -- or, as ICE told CBS News, the equivalent of about $9,000 per hour.

"The goal is to get these individuals into a safe and secure environment as quickly as possible," said Matthew Albence, the acting director of ICE. He claims that the flights are the most efficient way to transport migrants to less crowded facilities for faster processing, because the numbers at the border are "so overwhelming."

Last month, Border Patrol apprehended 98,977 people, more than double the amount of people apprehended last April.

"We're seeing a challenge that we've never seen before," said Brian Hastings, the Border Patrol law enforcement operations chief, adding "If the family units were noncriminal, we began releasing them because we simply ran out of room."

Trump Warns That Rising Border Crossings May Require an Extra $1.4 Billion

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/18/us/politics/trump-migrant-children-border.html

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration has warned Congress that the flow of unaccompanied migrant children at the southern border has increased even further than it anticipated just a few weeks ago and may require an additional $1.4 billion to provide housing and care.

In a letter to congressional leaders dated Friday, the administration said the extra money would be needed on top of $2.9 billion it had already requested to deal with the growing influx of migrant children. The immigration rate has already surpassed the projections used to justify that request, which was sent on May 1.

“Since then, the situation has continued to deteriorate and is exceeding the previous high-end estimate,” Russell T. Vought, the acting director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, wrote in the letter to lawmakers. The rising demands “will exhaust amounts currently available to fund services that involve the safety of human life, protection of property and the immediate welfare of individuals.”

It's' now the 2nd half of May 2019 and anybody not living in a cave should have known for months that we have a crisis on the southern border.

And the only group that can take substantive actions to address and manage it better, chooses to continue to pretend to be living in their own  cave in their own political alternate universe.

What exactly are they trying to (not) accomplish here as they have lost the debate over whether there is a major crisis on the southern border(facts and realities sometimes win out) and they have lost the blame game war. after winning the blame game battle during the government  shutdown in January.

Trying to have more battles, when you have been defeated, after the war has been won by the other side-there is no longer a reason to debate/battle  whether we have a crisis or not-its been conclusively decided(like the loss of the war for president in November 2016) only results in hurting both sides and everybody in between.

Please Congress, just try to help us, the American people, the horribly over extended border patrol,  the Catholic charities and others devoting everything they have to help to manage the unprecedented crisis situation with these poor immigrants on the southern border ASAP.  Keep investigating Trump if you want but please take a short break to do your jobs.

The end of the world climate crisis still has 12 years on the clock, the southern border crisis is right now.
