1915 – World War I: The last Australian troops are evacuated from Gallipoli.

Gallipoli became known as "Churchill's Folly". He was the primary architect of the disastrous campaign, serving as First Lord of the Admiralty.

Thousands of Allied troops were stranded on the beach and were cannon fodder for the enemy. There was a motion picture made of the event, starring Mel Gibson.
