Critics have largely reproached the film team for its avoidance of Jackson’s later controversies and its overall “sanitization” of the performer. For RogerEbert.com, Robert Daniel calls Michael “the first half of the Cliff Notes of the singer’s life” and overly controlled by his siblings, who serve as executive producers: “In every cloying moment, you can notice their fingerprints all over this plastic jukebox picture.” The Telegraph‘s Robbie Collin added: “It is simply not credible for a film to claim to be about Michael Jackson without addressing, even obliquely, the accusations, controversies and sadness that dogged his later life,” Collin said.
Even Michael’s own daughter Paris Jackson has publicly spoken out against the biopic’s “whitewashed” treatment of her famous dad. “It’s fantasy land. It’s not real but it’s sold to you as real and a lot is sugar-coated,” she posted to her social media in September 2025, per the New York Post. “The narrative is being controlled and there’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies.”

I grew up listening to his music and later, appreciating his genius. In 1966 and still in 2026, if I love the way a song sounds, I'll listen and enjoy the music, regardless of the personal life of the singer or musicians playing the instruments. They created something that is good for the world to enjoy! Bad people can create good things!!!
Music = Music!
Personal life, however is a different story. This movie is about the personal life of a bad person, Michael Jackson that includes his incredible music. They chose to portray him as only a good person for profits, personal agenda and other reasons that are not honest.
Should the legacy of a pedophile that preyed on children be salvaged with a propaganda movie?
It's Hollywood and they will do what makes the most money and their #1 priority isn't morals or accuracy/truth. If people enjoy the movie and it causes them to be deceived about who Michael Jackson really was, who does that hurt?
There are worse things out there.

One could certainly make the case that Michael Jackson produced several orders of magnitude greater joy in the world in his public life for a billion people than the despicable damage that he caused as a pedophile in his personal life to XXX people.
There are lessons to learn, however.
Rich, famous and powerful people can get away with crimes. The adulation they receive, often creates a mindset that causes them to escalate their own worth as human beings and put lesser value on other human beings beneath them.
To justify doing selfish things to satisfy their needs, even when it hurts other people that they dehumanize because of this mindset. Maybe Michael Jackson's mental illness played a role. Where does one draw the line between a pathological, CRIMINAL lust for children that is acted on by an adult and mental illness?
The VAST majority of men who did what Michael Jackson did would have spent time in prison for it.

Funny thing is that when I first heard about this movie and what was (NOT) in it, I felt bothered that this pedophile was getting a free pass that would boost his legacy(which I thought was undeserved).
After spending more OBJECTIVE thought to the matter and growing up with Michael jackson and having so many positive memories and feelings during those years associated with his work and of course NOT HATING HIM today for what he did to innocent children, I feel less bothered by this HOLLYWOOD movie's' portrayal.
Bothered still because he used his position to prey on innocent children and should have went to prison for it but LESS bothered!
