We've haven't had a good rain here in Evansville, IN for 2 months!
One of my favorite things to do, when we have the first big rain after a very dry period like this is to go outside and just watch it fall and be in awe of the atmospheric dynamics and amazing creation of the living world that is soaking it up and being nurtured.
Was just out there with my raincoat on. So far, we've had at least .25".
We'll take 2 inches gladly if it comes.
I also greatly enjoy taking full advantage of living in the best age of human technology and watching it on the computer screen too.........where WE CAN ALL enjoy everybody else getting rain(and weather-good and bad) in the world at the convenience of our electronic devices!

This link below provides some great data. After going to the link, hit "Mesoanalysis" then, the center of any box for the area that you want, then go to observation on the far left, then surface observations to get constantly updated surface observations or hit another of the dozens of choices.
Found a great new link/site that shows us how much precip fell(from 1 hr to 72 hours) for different periods to share with you. https://www.iweathernet.com/total-rainfall-map-24-hours-to-72-hours Data Update Cycle: The 1-hr mosaic is updated every 5 min (approx). All other mosaics are now updated hourly, including the 48h and 72h maps. The site does not allow me to copy the actual images/data here, as we do with all the other links above..........so just go to the link! |

U.S. Drought Monitor
https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/Maps/CompareTwoWeeks.aspx
This week's drought monitor shows a marked expansion of dryness in the eastern belt (IL, IN, mid-south, Delta) from the previous week. Dry conditions now cover 58% of Illinois and 88% of Indiana, both the most since Oct. 2020.
The drought monitor can sometimes be a lagging indicator, but the trend is backed up here by the monthly precip anomalies. That same problem area mentioned above has gotten well below normal rainfall this month. In fact, almost none of the Corn Belt has been distinctly wet.

Anybody else have rain amounts?

Is today's rally indicative of selling exhaustion or weather forecasts becoming more 'bullish' (or at least less bearish)?
(Remove to different topic if you prefer)
Thanks tjc,
I've been discussing the specific details of what's going on with the grains and weather here:
https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/86654/#86810
That hasn't changed in the last hour.
Did you get any rain tjc?
No rain (yet) in north central LaSalle County, I80 and Rt 71.
West looks pretty dark. Forecast 1 plus over next 6-7 hours
.3 Tuesday after .3 Saturday
Parts of southern LaSalle County (BIG county) had 3 inches Saturday
Thanks!
Frustrating when a big rain just misses you in a drought like this.
Good luck! If you miss these rains, chances get pretty low for awhile.
For those wondering where that is:
Here's the radar images:

Just checked the rain gauge and our total from the earlier showers was .47!
That's more than the total amount of the previous month!
For those that don't follow on a regular basis. This current drought is mainly from the long lived natural La Nina, which is cool water anomalies in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean.
If you have a source that is telling you that its from the climate crisis.........FIND another source that actually understands weather/climate!
Climate change has blessed the Midwest with the best 3 decades of growing season weather since we've been able to record it in the Midwest!
HEAVIEST Rains are diving south.
Sorry to say for you tjc. May be taking aim at us.
Looks like the top amount of rain in your county from this event was around .11 with everyone else getting less )-:
The rains split down here, most going north and we got just .04 additional but now at .51 total with continued rain chances thru tomorrow evening.
received 2/10 yesterday
bigger rains to the east and south yesterday
hope Mcfarm gets some today
hope it can stay together to get some here today
not a chance cutworm. Watched another come from west of St Louis come all the way to the west side if Indy today hoping against hope that it would stay together. Never got the road wet. We are 4/1oths since June 5th or so
This is the best site that I know of which updates rain amounts. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow me to cut and paste/copy anything which is my favorite way to display data here.

However, I've found them to be WAY off compared to my backyard rain gauge, so it obviously goes off of radar returns..........which estimates rainfall from return signatures well ABOVE the ground and it doesn't know what makes/made it to the surface.
For our Indiana producers, mcfarm and cutworm, rain chances are still elevated for more than the next day........let's hope you get a big one!
I'm sure you guys can appreciate the first post X10!
I noted on the site/link above that you guys got totally ripped off with rains all around but a giant band of almost no rains which is around 150 miles wide starting way back in IA, where it's just northeast of Des Moines, then continues across North/Central IL, then to all of Central Indiana.
If there's anything that REALLY hurts the most is when alot of people get rain in a drought..........but not you!
tallpine, how much rain did you get in Iowa?

Update on I8o and Rt 71 ZIP!! All pushes south, and not much
Supposedly 60% from 7pm tonight to 2pm tomorrow
Thanks tjc (-:
Anybody in IL/IN could get 2+ inches of rain the next 24 hours..........or they could miss.
Many folks will get a nice rain(s), others will not get much in those 2 states.
We missed on Thursday, nothing over night. All rain south Very humid and overcast looks like a miss
It is raining Now suggesting moderate rain into this late evening
Total .6 Nothing in ten day forecast
8/10 total here since 7-6
Thanks for the rain reports.
I got another .8 for a total of 1.31.
Total .6 ......
that's frustrating with so much heavier rain around you, especially south and also east.
https://www.iweathernet.com/total-rainfall-map-24-hours-to-72-hours
We got another .1 here for around 1.4 just north of Evansville.
