Wind and solar battery storage

I must correct a mis-statement i have made on this forum more than once

I stated that Elon Musk had said there was no way to store enough energy from wind and solar in battery form to last during the night or other times when this form of energy was not available

Well it seems I was wrong

Elon Musk has developed a giant battery farm in Australia to store wind and solar energy and then the batteries are capable of transferring the stored energy back into the grid when needed

It seems that in some places such as Australia the wind and solar energy is cheaper to produce than fossil fuel

So: 1st of all I was wrong

2nd; It seems in some places and conditions so called clean energy does have a place in energy production

Now a person might question the electrical grid but what ever was available has not changed because of wind or solar. Just a different method of generating the needed energy

So: Will tech continue to advance to provide clean energy. If a person ignores the carbon foot print to produce the wind mill then so called clean energy may be part of our future

I have to realize that the old way is not capable of new methods

Wayne,

Sometimes we lose sight of the reality.

Fossil fuels are cheap, reliable, abundant, convenient and dense/power packed.

A power plant does not have to burn them, then have to store the energy in a battery for later use, then draw the energy out of the battery when demand exceeds supply.

Doing all this, wastes(results in great losses)  a ton of the energy that was gathered from solar and wind..........besides the issues of creating the capacity to store massive amounts of energy in a battery.

With fossil fuels, you get them out of the ground...............then store them, until its time to burn them.

For unleaded/diesel/heating oil they need to be refined first.

They sit in your tank ready to burn when you need them.

You don't have to burn a tanks full of unleaded and store it in a battery, the when you need it, get it out of the battery.

It sits in your tank at 100% power stored. When you need it........you burn it, losing nothing. There are tens of thousands of gas stations across North America, conveniently located with plenty more when you need it.

It would be a dream come true if it was just invented.

There should be a darn good reason to change it.

So what is the reason to change it? We've had the best weather/climate the past 40 years gong back thousands of years. The optimal temperature of the planet is 2 degrees warmer than this. Cold still kills 200 times more life than heat. The planet is greening up. The optimal level of CO2 for life is 900 ppm, more than double this.

We are having a climate optimum by all scientific standards, so that CAN'T BE the real reason to get rid of a dream come true.

The real reason is entirely politics. I guarantee you, with 100% certainty that the Biden people will start imposing carbon taxes and penalties on all energy soon.

They will increase taxes on higher incomes and increase benefits on lower incomes. The  Green New Deal is all about this as is the Climate Accord.......wealth redistribution and global socialism.

It's good that they also want to reduce over consumption of natural resources and reduce REAL pollution.

However, distorting the authentic science and covering up the truths  here is a ruse to get you to support the socialism part.

Mike: I did not post to disagree with you

I posted to show that alternative energy is possible

I did not say it was cheaper, better, cleaner etc although I did say that energy from the source ie: the wind farm is cheaper

I think what I really wanted to do is tell folks that people who think the Green policy is the way of the future do have some things that will convince some people, perhaps a lot of people that Green is good. The car manufacturers are not building EV just for nothing. They expect a good part of the market will be EV and they want a share of that market. They are not arguing the merits of ICE engines vs EV. They know there will be a market for EV. You can stand on your soap box all day long and preach about fossil fuels. There will be a segment of society that won't listen to you and will buy EV.

As you have posted those who advocate Green is good are not telling us the entire story. But, when you have people listening to the MSM constantly telling us Green is good then over time people will agree that Green is good. Say it often enough and it becomes true. Become a denier and you are censored, demeaned etc. Just as it is bad to question the election. There are people with questions. But if I am correct, you are calling those who question the election deniers  and other things perhaps even worse.. You are saying these people don't have legitimate questions and don't deserve to have a conversation because they are all wrong

The days of debate, even a conversation of two different thoughts seems to be gone. Either you agree, with power, justice, the court system etc. or you are the worst person to even think of speaking up to power, or the popular thought process decided by the courts etc.. Ever hear of a court of law that got it wrong. How many innocent people are in jail today. But when the court said the vote was legit then that is the end of the conversation.. I know all about the end of a conversation. I was told by a neighbour, the planet has a big problem if we don't immediately take steps to save the planet. When I said the planet has more green vegetation today then 10-20 yrs ago, I was called out as telling false information. The person used as his example the deforestation of the rain forest and that was the end of the debate.

What do you do when people won't listen to the entire story. I just shrug my shoulders and stop talking. I know it looks bad on my part but some times you just can't win.

It will be interesting to see what your congress has to say about Biden's request for 4 trillion to start a Green Deal in the USA. [at least that is the number currently kicked around, although the number could change]

Will there be 10 republican senators who will support the bill

Sorry about my rant and jumping around from one subject to another. I can't master the art of concise posting

That was a great post Wayne!

Absolutely no reason to be sorry for stating anything in there.
