Huge Central/Southern Plains  precip  in key Winter Wheat areas and "some" dry spots crushing wheat prices:

But this 1 event will not come close to alleviating the drought/dryness in other places....it misses the Upper Midwest/N.Plains.

The week 2 pattern after this turns dry.

Thanks bcb!

We'll see how bad the Winterkill was(or wasn't) when the crops start to green up next month.

Potential for winterkill to the Kansas wheat crop

The next 4-6 weeks will be crucial to determine the recovery potential of the crop. Ideally, precipitation would alleviate the current dry conditions and temperatures would warm up slowly so that the crop can start spring development. Continuation of the dry conditions can further impair crop recovery

Frigid temperatures in mid-February rocked the nation’s winter wheat crop.

Winter wheat acres in pockets of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska had ample snow cover at the time of the deep freeze. Snow cover protects wheat from freezing temperatures, based on a 1983 report from North Dakota State University. Researchers determined a 2- to 3-inch snow cover can protect wheat plants with good winter-hardiness traits from air temperatures of -30°F.

Winter Storm 2021

Watch: Texas farmers start to replant after winter freeze left "total devastation"

Johnson’s Backyard Garden, an organic farm near Austin, lost almost its entire crop during February's devastating winter storm.
