and what happened in the last few months? Exactly what RR warned about so many years ago. Many freedoms gone, much of our history ignored or destroyed and safety .....that one even some libs are starting to figure out

The problem with this warning is that Reagan never said this:

Good catch Larry!

The problem that we have on the internet and MSM right now is that anybody can post or broadcast anything(freedom of the press)  that looks or sounds convincing to say what they want.

And there are some issues, like climate change, protests/COVID and the drug Hydroxychloroquine that are extremely political and the gatekeepers of information very motivated (greater than their ethical standards to tell the objective truth)  that we are being constantly bombarded by half truths, spun information and fake news.

After awhile, the average Joe without a degree in atmospheric science/medicine or statistics and not armed with  highly developed critical thinking(that they apply to STUFF THAT SUPPORTS THEIR THINKING) can't discern between the authentic science/facts and the convincing sounding fraudulent science/facts.

Why is that a problem? I don't know if RR said it or not. Took it for face value. And those words are true. More true today than ever. If you find something that is fake, not true, not a good warning please let me know. Otherwise it would probably be a rather wise choice for all those "victims" out there to heed those words....no matter who said them first.

Take a long look at Chicago, Detroit , Portland, Seattle, NY or any other large urban areas and let me know which words do not apply. Then walk into that voting booth and say thanks libs for bring us a 3rd world country. And then when thousands flee those places and they fall into ruin remember those words you were so damn worried about and who said them first.

Reagan was far different from Trump in that he wasn’t divisive. He never would have singled out the Dem party like what is in this fake news quote.

wow that is really telling wx. RR is recent history, not so long ago we all can't remember times he called the dems out. And especially the left wing of the dems time after time. I suppose you did not take a look at the speech I linked to but it has many examples. Yes, he had a more disarming way to do it but he did it in spades.. And again, truer words were never spoken, read them and weep.

Ahhhh, your feelings about Trump are getting in the way of your memory/interpretation of Reagan. He just did it in a charismatic way.

He absolutely singled out the Dem party like that.

The problem with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant,   it's that so much of what they know is not true.

RR said something like that,  and was so right  :-)

The fact remains that there is absolutely no record of Reagan saying that line and I backed it up with sources. Y’all (Mc, Tim but especially McFarm) keep dancing around the fact that Reagan is being falsely identified with that quote. At least Mike gave me credit for catching this.

Stop dancing and acknowledge that this is fake news.

Pardon me.  but "Stop dancing and acknowledge that this is fake news." seems like a silly,  if not redundant request. You pointed out the quote was false,  MM acknowledged it.  How much affirmation do you need?

You'd have a point if we were to insist the quote was true,  but that has not happened.

As an aside,  Reagan did say "If fascism ever comes to the US, it will come in the name of liberalism", and that's not too far from the message in the OP.

————————-

Tim,

Even after I posted that there’s absolutely no proof that Reagan said what the quote has, McFarm still said in here: “I don't know if RR said it or not.”

So, despite there being no evidence that Reagan said what McFarm erroneously told us was said by him and that being backed up by the link that I provided, he still is not accepting this and that’s why I said what I said.

Furthermore, McFarm asked me after posting that there’s no record of Reagan saying that, “Why is that a problem?”

Does anyone other than Mike and myself not see why this is a problem?

Since nobody else other than Mike has agreed in this thread that posting and spreading false info is a problem, I’ve decided that I may start intentionally posting false info to prove my point that it is bad to do this. Heck, if others like McFarm don’t care whether or not they’re spreading false info, I no longer see the point of sticking to posting facts here any more. Maybe that way I can better make my point. So, this is my warning to the forum to be ready for me to post fake news sometimes. I no longer care about sticking to facts here. The importance of doing so isn’t appreciated enough here and McFarm even asked why this is a problem. Remember this post and that you, the reader, were warned. As a part of this, I’m no longer going to worry about the reliability of sticking to credible sources of info since several posters in this forum don’t do so and they over and over keep using questionable sources.

Wx or Vandy, I never intentionally printed anything false. I have not done any research into the statement. Why not? As I said earlier its simple. RR made statements nearly identical over and over. Contrary to your memory, although smooth, he pounded libs often. That is far different from you throwing a hissy fit, much like vandy did, then throwing threats out about your future posts. Grow up and drop the pretend victim routine.

do a quick review of RR {hard to believe you missed the greatest pres in the last 100 years} and you will see the similarity unless your Trump hatred prevents

Larry,

It's a problem here and big problem everywhere right now about almost everything political as I mentioned when congratulating you on helping me out with that problem.

So the solution is simple and you had it right in the beginning, a couple of days ago.

When there is fake news or distorted facts, post the REAL facts from a legitimate source. I am pretty dang diligent in doing that ASAP when it occurs here.

If the poster of the fake news wants to have a debate, you will NEVER EVER change their minds...........EVER.

Stick with the original point that you KNOW you are right about................in this case, that Reagan never specifically stated what was on the first post and don't let them change the topic to justify it.

In  this case, Reagan DID say things similar to what mcfarm posted but he never said THOSE things. So, if you want to clearly be correct in this case, stick to that provable fact and make that your entire point................and you win every time.

If the other person(s) want to try to justify using the FAKE fact, let them. You will not win an argument with them but you will win your case 100% of the time by sticking with the proof that their fact was FAKE. You look good, they look bad from objective points of view................then drop it because you PROVED your case from the get go and you already won............or just show another source that proves their fact was FAKE.

Don't let your victory slip away by getting into a debate that muddies the waters or diverts into other areas and especially, results in responding based on emotions that drive you to retaliate because of hatred for Trump that blinds you and causes you to do things you would NEVER consider, in order to get revenge. This makes YOU look really bad.

Here is how it might have gone:

Larry: Reagan never stated those things, here's the proof.

mcfarm: Yeah, but Reagan said things like that, so it doesn't matter because it accurately represents what Reagan might have said.

Larry:  Yes it does matter because he didn't say it and it's always  wrong to attribute a made up quote to somebody, under any circumstances. Here's more proof that he never said it.

mcfarm/Tim:  Here's a quote just like it that Reagan did say.

Larry: OK, I agree that Reagan said that but so what?  The problem I have is the original quote is completely fake. End of story.

Larry wins because he sticks to the position he is right about.

mcfarm/Tim can justify using the fake quote all they want but you stick to the original point.

And most importantly, don't let it rile you up or frustrate you because of your passionate feelings about Trump.

I'll have more in a few minutes.

Larry,

Some of my favorite posts here the past 2 years, have been those from sources that claim we are having a climate crisis.

Even though I'm convinced that the climate crisis is fake, I see those posts, stories, articles and links here as golden opportunities to SHOW why they are wrong.

When I am armed with the facts, I can obliterate those that are basing a position on fake or distorted facts.

So instead of getting frustrated over FAKE news and conspiracy theories posted here...........use them as golden opportunities to expose them and show the truth.

It makes you look good if you do it in a professional way using REAL facts. Annnnnnd. It's the only way to change minds.

Nobody's mind is going to be changed by trying to bully them. It just makes them dig in more to defend their position and it turns people off to bullying(note the world biggest bully right now is the most hated person on the planet and everything he states is rejected)

But when you do the exact same thing, show the REAL fact or correct their FAKE fact in a nice way or professional way, anybody with a few objective brain cells is going to side with you.

Hate is the most destructive emotion of all.

"It will cause you to lower and violate the  previous standards that you set for yourself for ethical behavior and honestly because this emotion drives you to hurt the person that you hate more than those  previous standards cause you to follow the truth and be objective...............and act professionally, with integrity.

It will cause you to do and say things that are harmful to you and your reputation when the hate becomes neurotic because you become so obsessed with harming the hated person that rational thinking no longer applies.

Your interpretation of circumstances involving the hated person becomes so blatantly skewed  that the hoped for endpoint in every realm is always for them to be hurt.

Hate blackens the heart and soul of the hater. It can ruin personal relationships and ironically, more often than not destroys the hater, not the target of their hatred.

This emotion drives the thoughts of many people when it comes to any issue involving President Trump."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I should emphasize the part on it destroying personal relationships in this thread.

You will never be bosom buddies with Tim and mcfarm but this entirely political discussion is rooted in your hatred for Donald Trump and its directly responsible for a deterioration in that relationship here.

Joj objected to me suggesting that he hates Trump and I apologized. However, you have admitted to not being able to get past your feelings for Trump here and pretty much admitted that you feel this way(hate) , so I feel comfortable in assuming that is the case and hope that you will agree.

If you disagree......................then, you need to have a talk with the man in the mirror (-:

Regardless,

The advice I am trying to provide is meant to be totally constructive and beneficial to you, not condensending or holier than thou or anything other than a sincere effort to assist a good friend that I respect tremendously.

You actually have much more to offer this trading forum than anybody else here by a wide margin. That's not why I  have the position above but it's to recognize your talents and knowledge.............and try to get you to use those.

Do you want to be known as "Larry the ng specialist or hurricane/weather expert" ?

Or "Larry, the guy that hates Trump and can't tolerate extreme right Trump lovers who post bs supporting Trump"?

You can be both and other things of course and still do well but which one of those identities, do you think will get you farther in a positive direction?

We can all do much better getting along, if we try to see things the way that somebody else might see things.......especially me.

Just to let Larry know, in order to protect the integrity of MarketForum, he is welcome to post like this but I will need to create a specific thread for his posts............like we did for the Trump bashing posts for 5 months last year and like we do for all the other sfuff..........NG thread, Weather thread, Exports, Crop conditions and so on.

Mike,

The NTR forum, outside of mainly your daily posts, has already lost its value due to infestation of BS threads. If you do this, I’m out of all of Marketforum including TR. What about the numerous BS threads out there that have no basis in fact like the numerous Dr Fauci is going to profit from a vaccine threads or a thread based on a fake Reagan quote? Why don’t you lump those together? There are on average several of these BS threads from non credible sources per day and yet you haven’t lumped them together into one thread. You’re thus making a point to give me unfair treatment. I don’t want to be a part of something like this. I see why Carl left.

Larry,

Your comment is  absurd and off base.

I have been very consistent and fair in my treatment and for you to threaten to leave because I'm treating your posts the same way I did cliffs and how I do all the other threads that have posts which line up with similarities ..........and actually cutting you huge slack because your posting tonight is intentionally trying to mess up the integrity of the forum but YOU are threatening to leave?

Others, take note.

Larry is going to leave if I put his nonsense posts intended to mess up the forum in 1 thread, like we do with other things and actually to accommodate him/allow him to continue to post nonsense if he wants.

Not insisting that he can't post nonsense but that he can't use it to wreck the integrity of MarketForum.

In other words, if I don't let him mess up the integrity of the forum,  he is leaving.

Your choice Larry.
