Katie Hill responds to California shooting: We need to beat Trump and 'flip the Senate'

metmike: I agree on tougher gun laws and background checks, so I'm with her on that idea.

Universal background check

Tim will probably have some good comments. Don't consider me an authority on this topic which is not my area of expertise.

The Democrats ares right

It's clearly Trump's fault that this shooting happened.... so is the NZ shooting.... the Garlic Festival shooting...alBagdhadi's death.... uh... strike that last one....the California fires, and so much more.

Let me prepare a poster to carry around for the next impeachment march this weekend. Let's see.... "Epstein didn't ki..." oh no... what got into me.... it should be "Trump must go"

It is very sad to see yet another school shooting. More innocent lives extinguished at a much too young age.

As an immigrant, I used to be appalled by the US gun culture. I used to point at the low number of gun deaths in countries like Japan, or various European countries.

Yet, I now understand that you can't just take the guns away from the Americans.  There are too many armed criminals breaking into people's homes.

I agree with better background checks, maybe longer waiting periods, etc. ... but you can't take away the second amendment.

Background checks?   I wait about a week to take delivery on a weapon here in Ga. Not everyone does. Something in my "file" is considered a red flag.  Maybe my posts on Market Forum?  <G>    One dealer told me it might be my military background.  I dunno.  Other than some "youthful indiscretions",  I'm pretty squeaky clean. Note* None of those indiscretions involved violence.

But, I don't think making laws  more strict will change much.  90+% of guns used in violence are not obtained through legal means.  Parkland happened not because  of flawed background checks,  but because the "powers that be" decided that hurting some kids future by reporting and/or prosecuting them for violence  was counter productive. Had the shooters background actually contained his history, he'd never have obtained a weapon through legal means.

We've had lots of guns in this country for 100's of years.  These shootings are a relatively new phenomena.  What's changed?   Is it the drugs we so often give kids to make them "healthy"? Is it lax discipline?  Is it the rise in single parent homes?  Some other social ill?   Probably a combination of all these things.

But the one thing in common with most mass shootings is they happen in gun free zones.  Put an armed gaurd or 2 in a school and the shooter will probably choose another target. People have no problem with armed guards in banks or airports or any # of other places.   Why not schools?

good points.. especially the one about the criminal portion of our society. They are heavily armed, and none of their weapons were obtained legally.
