It's quite simple. Each side has completely different definitions of what makes America Great.
The right wants freedom and prosperity. A society where your abilities can take you as far as you want to go as long as you are willing to put in the effort.
The left wants everyone to be supported by the government. Free healthcare, free education, free food, free houses, free income. Never grow up. Your parents or the government will take care of you forever!!
How can two such disparate groups ever reach an agreement?
"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so". Ronald Reagan
The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.
C. K. Chesterton
This statement presupposes that the people who originaly made the mistake can correct the mistake. Where government is concerned, history shows that the "corrections"are often far worse than the original mistakes. At best, they accomplish nothing.
As long as I can keep hiring Mexicans,I shall be prosperous! I was so far ahead of the game years ago.
history shows that the "corrections"are often far worse than the original mistakes. At best, they accomplish nothing.
Tim, attempting to dismantle Obamacare proves the statement to be correct.
As long as I can keep hiring Mexicans, I shall be prosperous!
Mikey, does that mean that you've been using Mexicans to do your commodity trades? <G>
Tim,
This identifies completely different ideologies between the 2 groups based on politics.
This does not mean that both sides cannot get along very well. In fact, it takes a desire to get along FIRST before you have a willingness to negotiate compromises. It's the lack of this desire to get along, often by both sides but sometimes, entirely by one side which is the biggest problem.
Everyone knows my position on the climate crisis being fake based on the authentic science, as I claim that we are having a climate optimum.
My position and the position of the side that disagrees is polar opposite and we will NEVER, EVER agree. Do I need to compromise and them compromise?
I am already the one compromising greatly and in fact, am the one using actions to do what the other sides claims they want to do with disingenuous words.
I will copy below, what my actions are as an environmentalist to help minimize real pollution on the planet. Also, I do alot of things to help the less fortunate on this planet and to make the world a better place.........with actions.

What I will not compromise on, however are scientific facts. You cannot negotiate authentic scientific facts. The left claims they are doing this to help the planet and they want to help the poor. Why is it that I'm the one helping the planet and the poor but being called a denier because I insist on using authentic science and they use junk science for their political agenda while not compelling us to address all the real environmental problems?
This is an example of one side making it politically impossible to compromise by hijacking climate science for their political agenda.
If they would come clean on the climate science, then come out with the real reason for the Climate Accord, which is a transfer of wealth from the rich/developed countries to the poor/undeveloped countries.........I would come out in compete support of this agenda!!!
And if they stopped attacking the scientifically beneficial gas as pollution and started going after REAL pollution and REAL ways to conserve and develop alternative energy...........I would not appear to be opposed to them.

The EPA-s endangerment finding which allows it to regulate CO2 as a pollutant is one of the biggest piles of dung in political history, masquerading as science.
I’m a passenger in a car right now ori would show it to you.
Keep in mind that I’m an environmentalist.
I conserve water and energy, I turn the ac completely off in the Summer when my wife is not home and the heat down to as low as50 in the winter when she’s gone.....seriously-I damaged her tropical plants a couple of times-I wear a sweat shirt, my winter jacket, a hat and gloves with finger holes to type on the computer. I often wear a pair of down pants over my jeans.
I minimize use of plastics and paper/ cardboard. We used to recycle but got out of that routine. My kids would collect aluminum cans, crush them then we would sell them. They made $100 doing this.
I also exercise vigorously and exhale massive amounts of beneficial CO2 to do my part in helping to green up the planet (-:
Unless you are very active or get dirty, there is no need to shower every day. I shower after exercise or working outside and getting dirty. Showering every day Is a waste of water if you just do it out of habit. Green lawns are aesthetically appealing but they waste billions of gallons of water.
The point of telling you this is that the hypocritical gatekeepers of the information that brainwash us about the fake climate crisis are maximizing their use of those fossil fuels to enjoy all the comforts they provide in their lives.......and calling people like me deniers for providing authentic science that contradicts their scary, speculative computer model simulations going out for the next 100 years.
And they have the gumption to tell us exactly what we have to do or we will lose the planet in 12 years, with solutions that will have zero effect on climate and don’t address any real environmental problems with our water, air or soils.
All the climate reality discussions can be found here:
Tim,
I went in a different direction initially to explain the main item that I disagree with based on the position of the left and why.
Being a person that was on the left for the first half of their life and not having compromised many of the principles that I believed in then, I believe that both sides can and should be able to at least compromise on many issues.
We can do more to help those less fortunate...........on the planet too. We can do more to help the environment. We really need to do MUCH more to renovate the health care system and private insurance has been a disaster only made worse by Obama Care(which was the right idea but with some bad applications)
I am convinced that in the absence of the government stepping in and doing an overhaul(that resets the entire price structure and system) the health care system will continue to collapse.
So I can see the other sides points but believe that people like me are a minority. Carl and Larry are people like this too.....there are others here that I will not mention because I will forget some of them. Gunter was your favorite though he leans to the right for me(which is ok because I do too on some issues)
Nothing against you Tim. You contribute a great deal here and are right on most of the time but acknowledge your biased thinking and mentality.
The title of this thread defines it.
I sort of chastised joj, then you for having this mentality earlier this week. Unfortunately, this subjectivity defines us as humans with cognitive bias.
It's good to have strong opinions and express them here respectfully, which everyone here does. It's what creates interesting discussions.
For me though, I think that we can ALWAYS get along when both sides are motivated to get along as the priority, that includes, at the very least, being able to see why the other side is thinking the way they think.
One side can completely sabotage that effort, which seems to be exactly the strategy of the far left right now...........block Trump, take the opposite position of Trump and go extreme on it intentionally. They know that the best chance to defeat Trump in 2020 is for the economy to fail and Trumps MAGA policies to flop. Sad but true.
There's nothing that you or me can do in a situation like that to agree with those extreme positions, especially when they refuse to see authentic facts but we can still get along here.
The people on this forum are all good people who want the best for our country and for the most part, despite political disagreements get along quite well.
Mike was telling us about his hard working illegal Mexicans a decade ago................long before it was a top political issue.
But he is a strong Trump supporter and greatly disliked Bush............for years after Bush was gone.
This is an example of somebody that is able to view the big picture and objectively make decisions based on policies or specific agenda, not based on the party line.....especially how they apply in the real world(for him).
