1927 – The Ford Motor Company ceases manufacture of the Ford Model T and begins to retool plants to make the Ford Model A.

Dad was an industrial engineer for Ford for 35+ years and knows everything about the history. 


1997 – The 1997 Central Texas tornado outbreak occurs, spawning multiple tornadoes in Central Texas, including the F5 that killed 27 in Jarrell.

1896 – The F4-strength 1896 St. Louis–East St. Louis tornado hits in St. Louis, Missouri, and East St. Louis, Illinois, killing at least 255 people and causing $2.9 billion in damage (1997 US dollars).

The tornado outbreak sequence of May 1896 was a series of violent and deadly tornado outbreaks that struck much of the Central and Southern United States from May 15 to 28, 1896. It is considered one of the worst tornado outbreak sequences on record with tornado expert Tom Grazulis stating that the week of May 24–28 was "perhaps the most violent single week of tornado activity in United States history"

One of the many benefits to the warming of the coldest places during this  current climate optimum has been the reduction in the steep temperature gradient that is often a factor in weather systems that produce the most violent tornadoes:

Tornado deaths in 2018 were only 10. The lowest in history.

Unfortunately, 2019 has been much more stormy, with 37 tornado deaths so far.
