“Previous NASA research found that Earth's increased greenery is largely due to skyrocketing levels of carbon-dioxide saturating the air — which plants use to grow. But this new research argues that tree and crop planting plays a bigger, outsized role.”
When China decides to do something they don’t go half-way.
Thanks mcfarm,
I'll have more comments this evening. That's a heck of a lot of greening/decade below!
Global average is 2.3%/decade or 23%/century which is pretty close to the estimate that I use, which is 25% since the Industrial revolution, just prior to 100 Years ago.
Studies/data like this help to continue to shine the light of truth, brighter and brighter on the darkness of deceit on statements like "we only have 12 years to act to save the planet"
The planet and life on it has been experiencing the best weather/climate and especially CO2 levels the past 40 years.....since the Medieval Warm Period, 1,000 years ago.
Enjoyed reading the study mcfarm.
It's just amazing to me, that scientists can spin data any way they want, like the hurricane study that pj sent and 99.9% of people have to believe it because the scientist obviously knows so much more than them in their field of expertise.
Read the last statement from this article:
"So while India and China look greener on the map, they're loading the atmosphere with historically unprecedented levels of potent greenhouse gases."
How silly. They are trying to use verbiage to twist reality. That green is not just a deceptive color on a map. It has profound meaning. It means the planet is LOVING those "potent"(they use that word as if it's dangerous) greenhouse gases............CO2, the beneficial life giving fertilizer/elixir for plants(not potent pollution).
They are trying to fool you, it represents LIFE and LIFE would continue to benefit MUCH more if we doubled the amount. We went from 280 ppm to 408 parts per million. Life would prefer something closer to 1,000 ppm.
They also are making a case that humans taking actions are what has greened up the planet...........planting trees and crops(crops are only green for several months in many climates, then they die and all that land is brown).
The objective to tell us that humans taking actions, some to fight climate change are whats causing the planet to green up.
Wrong a roo.
Humans burning fossil fuels are the biggest cause by a wide margin.......leading to the massive increase of the beneficial gas, CO2. Also, the best weather and climate in the last 1,000 years.
https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2016/carbon-dioxide-fertilization-greening-earth
An international team of 32 authors from 24 institutions in eight countries led the effort, which involved using satellite data from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer instruments to help determine the leaf area index, or amount of leaf cover, over the planet’s vegetated regions. The greening represents an increase in leaves on plants and trees equivalent in area to two times the continental United States.
Even the deserts are greening up from the increase in CO2!
https://phys.org/news/2013-07-greening-co2.html
In findings based on satellite observations, CSIRO, in collaboration with the Australian National University (ANU), found that this CO2 fertilisation correlated with an 11 per cent increase in foliage cover from 1982-2010 across parts of the arid areas studied in Australia, North America, the Middle East and Africa, according to CSIRO research scientist, Dr Randall Donohue.
So, if you want the planet to get more green, which represents LIFE ..........it's good to plant more trees(silly to grow more crops to make it green) but the irrefutable way to cause the planet to get more green, is to do EXACTLY WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING and exactly what's been causing it to green up...........give life more of what it loves...........CO2.
The slight beneficial warming of around 1 Deg. C over the last century has also led to an increase in greening and less global drought, along with an increase in rain(and heaavy rain events), part of the best weather/climate since the Medieval Warm Period, that was also this warm.

It should be noted that metmike is an environmentalist.
I believe strongly in conserving natural resources and minimizing/cutting pollution. Also in developing and increasing alternative/clean sources of energy.
That is, in fact part of the reason for my position on CO2 and climate change..........because we need to use authentic science and the truth to make smart decisions that will benefit humans and the rest of life on this planet.
Not junk science and twisting realities into fake news narratives in order to mislead and use sincere environmentalists in order to accomplish political agenda which wastes billions of dollars.
In fact, that money and those resources are being channeled into counterproductive measures and could be used much more wisely if applied using principles based on legit science.............including the irrefutable fact that carbon dioxide is a beneficial gas.
That fact is true in biology, agronomy, zoology, plant science, meteorology, climate science..........all sciences.
The only realm where CO2 has been defined as pollution is..........politics.
Not only are we NOT headed towards a climate crisis.........we are actually headed toward a climate Optimum.
By 'we". I mean the planet and the majority of life.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocene_climatic_optimum
"The Holocene Climate Optimum (HCO) was a warm period during roughly the interval 9,000 to 5,000 years BP. It has also been known by many other names, such as Altithermal, Climatic Optimum, Holocene Megathermal, Holocene Optimum, Holocene Thermal Maximum, Hypsithermal, and Mid-Holocene Warm Period.
The Holocene Climate Optimum warm event consisted of increases of up to 4 °C near the North Pole (in one study, winter warming of 3 to 9 °C and summer of 2 to 6 °C in northern central Siberia)"
"Out of 140 sites across the western Arctic, there is clear evidence for conditions warmer than now at 120 sites. At 16 sites, where quantitative estimates have been obtained, local HTM temperatures were on average 1.6±0.8 °C higher than now."
