Amazon Bolts NYC !!

The left wing really blew it on this one.  Amazon got a sweetheart deal in tax breaks and activists howled.  But ALL new businesses in NY state get tax breaks to open new businesses.  Estimates are that the city will lose out on 27 billion in tax revenues over the next 10 years.   That would have come in handy for the huge infrastructure needs in the city.  Subway rates gonna go up smartly now.

Poor people would get priced out of the Queens neighborhood that they were planning to set up in.  The 25,000 jobs were going to be high paying jobs, but that results in the ripple effect of new businesses opening up which would have employed those lower paid workers.  Street vendors, yoga instructors, Uber drivers...etc.

I have to add that this mentality of a finite economic pie is also present in the anti immigrant (don't take my job) crowd.  Grow the pie!!

Polls showed 70% of New Yorkers were in favor of Amazon setting up shop here.  ...Shaking my head.

I largely agree with you here.  Atlanta was in the running.  I suspect we are back in the race. I doubt we have enough socialists, yet, to ruin the deal.

But this statement ; "I have to add that this mentality of a finite economic pie is also present in the anti immigrant (don't take my job) crowd.  Grow the pie!!" needs to be modified to "Anti-Illegal immigrant". I've yet to hear any significant group, in size or stature, argue against immigration. Closest I've heard is a change to existing laws to use a merit based system of weighting application priorities. One where we'd place an emphasis on needed skills.  Which, BTW, would certainly help to grow the pie.

The waves of immigrants coming from eastern Europe between 1880 - 1920 were thought to be subhuman, dare I say from "Sh*t hole countries",  and certainly were not filtered by their skill level.  Their children became "skill based". They correlate nicely with an explosive growth period.  They added to the American culture.   Today's version of that is anti immigrant in my view.

I would say the effort to keep families apart is also anti immigrant.

You are stuck on the idea that demanding that immigrants enter legally is anti-immigrant.

Can you cite an example of legal immigrant families being separated?

And yes, some, (many?) "citizens" have always regarded outsiders/immigrants as inferior. It's an inherent flaw in some to see differences as inferiorities.  I mean, look at how many rank and file dems view Trump supporters? And to be fair, how many Trump supporters view rank and file dems.

Legal immigration has been a major catalyst in creating the powerhouse that American became.

But, the skills required during the 1800's and early 1900's were quite different than they are now. We do not need to import low skilled workers. We have more than we need. Not to say we'll accept none. We just need a shift in priorities.
