Holy Cow, Mother Nature on a rampage!!!

1839 – A cyclone slams into south-eastern India, with high winds and a 40-foot storm surge destroying the port city of Coringa (which has never been completely rebuilt). The storm wave swept inland, taking with it 20,000 ships and thousands of people. An estimated 300,000 deaths resulted from the disaster.

1926 – The deadliest November tornado outbreak in U.S. history kills 76 people and injures more than 400.

We will often have one, maybe 2 events on this day in history that feature a storm or earthquake but today, there were 11!

Probably some of it has to do with whoever makes this list and what they pick but the most I remember seeing listed since doing this in August is 3. Even if it was as many as 5 previously, this is still more than double!

This number of fatalities on this one caught my eye:

1839 – A cyclone slams into south-eastern India, with high winds and a 40-foot storm surge destroying the port city of Coringa (which has never been completely rebuilt). The storm wave swept inland, taking with it 20,000 ships and thousands of people. An estimated 300,000 deaths resulted from the disaster.

At that time, there were only 1 billion humans on the planet. That many people dying from 1 storm represented .03% of the entire worlds population!!

300,000 divided by 1,000,000,000

Was there ever anything like this in history?

Looks like there have been several worse natural disasters in history!

Note, that in the top 10 list below, all the extreme weather(flooding/cyclones) occurred well before human caused climate change would have been a factor.  If there would be an extreme cyclone or flood with just a fraction of the fatalities today, you know that human caused climate change would get blamed.

Mike , after reading your posts about the disasters, anything I might select would be embarrassing.

I'll try not to hog the show so much for November 26th (-:

I got carried away with all that extreme stuff from the past.

Makes one appreciate just how great the present is that much more!
