I don't like the fact that he attempted to overturn the will of the people on Jan 6th.

I don't like the fact that he is a criminal.

I don't like the fact that he considers his political opponents as enemies of our country.

I don't like the fact that he is using the military against its citizens.

I don't like the fact that he and his family are enriching themselves in violation of the emoluments clause of the US constitution he swore to protect and defend.

I don't like the fact that he values loyalty to himself above competency.

I don't like the fact that he puts the health of our children in jeopardy by empowering a nut job like RFK jr.

I don't like the fact that he has made the justice department his own political / legal weapon.

I don't like the fact that he bullies our closest allies and trading partners.

(Have I left out a few MM?).....

I won't exaggerate this as peace in the middle east....

But, Trump deserves credit for ending the war in Gaza and bringing the suffering on both sides to an end.  Job well done.

Thanks, joj but Trump DID NOT end the war(yet)!

I agree with you that he deserves big credit for bringing the remaining hostages home and in causing the current cease fire and increase in needed aid in Gaza and have stated that several times now.

This was a great thing for sure!

This comes, after President Trump  intentionally ramped up 11 billion in  ammo(that he sent without Congressional approval)  that killed  an additional thousands of people in the Gaza genocide his first 9 months.

Did that play a role in the hostages coming home sooner?

Maybe but we have to ask if being a key player in the deaths of thousands in a genocide justifies bringing home 20 people sooner?

I guess if you are the family members of those 20 it’s an easy answer. If you are from Israel or Jewish that is also an easier answer. Or in MAGA or a Trump cheerleader another easy answer.

If this really does end the war, then its an easy answer for most of us, including me.

But the interview that I watched on CNN with a top IDF official very early this morning made it clear that the war is NOT over.

Trump telling everybody about something and bragging about it, as we've noted in the past usually makes a case for it to NOT be so.

The message of this person, on CNN who lines up with Netanyahu made it clear that the war is NOT over until Hamas throws down their weapons completely gives up.

I hope that happens but wishful thinking that contradicts realities is just wishful thinking.

There is no way for any of us to know if the war is over or not but we do know a few things.

1. If Hamas completely gives up, then the war is over.

2. If Hamas does not give up, then the war is NOT over.

3. Netanyahu and his top military leaders are saying right now that if Hamas still exists in Gaza, the war must go on to eliminate them.

4. Based on the past, what is mostly likely. Hamas giving up and throwing down their weapons or Hamas still clinging to power?

5. Netanyahu, Trump and others will spin the information to line up with their agenda.

a. Trumps wants it to all show that Donald J Trump was entirely responsible for ending the 2 year war in Gaza.

b.  Netanyahu (who tried to assassinate the  lead Hamas negotiating team in Qatar last month)  appears to NOT want the war to end yet.

Israel bombed Qatar to assassinate Hamas’s lead ceasefire negotiators

Amid ongoing ceasefire talks, Israel attempted to assassinate the Hamas negotiating team in an airstrike on the Doha office of its lead negotiator, senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya. Hamas officials say the negotiating team survived the attack.

Added to things that we know from the previous page:

6. President Trump's plan likely caused Hamas to release these hostages and we should all celebrate that, no matter what the politics are and give him credit for that aspect of the war.

7. There were/are 2 basic, independent trades here:

a. Short term/temporary: Releasing the hostages to get short term relief to the people of Gaza from bombing and killing, along with the desperately needed aid for the starving and health/medical suffering, along with releasing Palestinians in prison..TO GET THE REMAINING HOSTAGES.

b. Long term/war ending: Hamas throwing down their weapons and clearly giving up on all or any of their control of Gaza.

If Hamas had done the b part first, then a would have automatically happened with it. Since that has not happened, we needed a to happen to get that part done.

This tells us that b is a much tougher thing to accomplish. Hamas also released hostages before and it only resulted in a cease fire/increase in aid that was temporary.

Now that Hamas has no more hostages to bargain with what will happen?

Any hesitation to do so will be an excuse for Netanyahu to resume the attacks...........and the war is back on. In fact, Netanyahu wlll be looking for any excuses, like Hamas hesitating to surrender to justify a resumption of the attacks.

So much uncertainty. I will  put up a  cautiously hopeful position on MarketForum in this post, that Hamas will be eradicated and this is the start since it truly is a day to celebrate the return of the hostages, huge short term relief, along with things being a great deal better than they've been at any point in the 2 year war.

ADDED; I take back that last statement. With the cumulative death and injury toll only going higher, more and more of Gaza razed from bombing, more starving people, some of those losses can never be recovered. All we are doing is temporarily stopping the damage from getting worse.

joj,

Based on just this, would you consider Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, despite his constant campaigning for it and his being a POTUS who’s always encouraging divisiveness and treating political opponents as enemies?

We've been here before!

January 2025 Gaza war ceasefire

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_2025_Gaza_war_ceasefire

A hostages-and-prisoners exchange and armistice between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip took effect from 19 January to 18 March 2025, during the Gaza war. It included eight rounds of hostages-and-prisoners exchanges between Israel and Hamas.

The initial proposal was a serial initiative in three stages, beginning with a six-week ceasefire and including the release of all Israelis being held hostage in Gaza in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians being held by Israel, an end to the war, Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and a reconstruction process that would last from three to five years. The proposal was first drafted by mediators from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, accepted by Hamas on 5 May 2024, and presented by U.S. president Joe Biden on 31 May.[1] On 10 June, the United Nations Security Council supported it as Resolution 2735.[2][3] Later in 2024, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was accused of hindering the proposal[4][5] while some US officials accused Hamas of the same.[6][7] After he was elected, United States president-elect Donald Trump joined Biden in pressuring the Israeli side to accept a similar proposal.[8][9][10][11] A variation of the proposal was agreed to by Israel and Hamas on 15 January 2025. On 17 January, the deal was signed by its negotiators, and it was approved by the Israeli security cabinet and later the full Israeli cabinet.[12][13][14]

During the first stage, Hamas released 33 hostages (mostly men 50 or over and women), in exchange for Israel releasing 30–50 Palestinians (starting with children and women) for every Israeli released. During the first stage, Israel allowed "sufficient" quantities of humanitarian aid, allowed displaced Palestinians to return to their homes and started to make a phased withdrawal from Gaza.[15] During the first stage of the ceasefire, talks were supposed to begin between both parties for a more permanent cessation of hostilities. In the second stage, Israel would accept a permanent ceasefire and Hamas would then release the remaining living male hostages, both civilians and soldiers, for an exchange of Palestinian prisoners.[15] In the third stage, the remains of deceased Israeli hostages would be released. Under the 5 May proposal, Israel would commit to lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip,[16][15] but this commitment was not present in the 31 May proposal.

++++++++++++++++

People seem to have forgotten but we've been down this road before. There was a ceasefire that lasted 2 months, then back to the war.

What makes this time any different, other than there are no more hostages for Hamas to bargain with???

Same Hamas, same Netanyahu, same US military industrial complex willing to send tens of billions to foreign allies/countries to kill their enemies,  just no more hostages and Trump instead of Biden in charge.

Biden actually gave MUCH more resistance to the war(blocking the biggest bombs from being shipped vs Trump shipping an extra 11 billion in weapons over the heads of Congress in 2 shipments earlier this year).

Biden says he will stop sending bombs and artillery shells to Israel if it launches major invasion of Rafah

   https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/08/politics/joe-biden-interview-cnntv

          Racine, Wisconsin      CNN         —

President Joe Biden said for the first time Wednesday he would halt some shipments of American weapons to Israel – which he acknowledged have been used to kill civilians in Gaza – if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu orders a major invasion of the city of Rafah.

“Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers,” Biden told CNN’s Erin Burnett in an exclusive interview on “Erin Burnett OutFront,” referring to 2,000-pound bombs that Biden paused shipments of last week

Trump administration plans $6.4 billion in weapons sales to Israel, sources say

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/white-house-seeking-congress-approval-sell-israel-6-bln-weapons-wsj-reports-2025-09-19/

+++++++++++

Earlier this year:

Trump Sidesteps Congress, Giving Billions to Israel

https://arabcenterdc.org/resource/trump-sidesteps-congress-giving-billions-to-israel/

On March 1, Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed a declaration to use emergency authorities to expedite approximately $4 billion in arms to Israel. Secretary Rubio invoked these authorities in lieu of the traditional congressional notification process. As is procedure, the Department of State typically notifies Congress of a proposed foreign military sale, which Congress is empowered to review. In using emergency authorities, Rubio and the Trump administration bypassed this process, waiving the congressional review requirements under Section 36(b) of the Arms Export Control Act. This marked the second time that the Trump administration had done so, following a fast-tracked sale for Israel worth more than $7 billion for munitions and related equipment announced February 7.

+++++++++++++++++++

So while Trump appeared to be in support of the earlier cease fire, behind the scenes, at the same time, he gushed out 11 billion in weapons to Israel (without approval by Congress) to ramp up their killing in  Gaza. Actions speak louder than words here! There are likely thousands MORE dead Palestinians because of Trump's actions earlier this year.

Only time will tell if this REALLY ends the war. I'll be very hopeful, despite most of the facts suggesting that it won't.

Anybody insisting that the Gaza war is over now, is ignoring all those facts, either intentionally or because they forgot them.

Netanyahu might be the only one that REALLY knows if the war is over or not and he  might be waiting to see if Hamas surrenders.

Israel-Gaza live updates: 5 Palestinians killed in Gaza City for alleged ceasefire violation, IDF says

Israel on Tuesday also identified two of the people whose remains were returned

Square profile pictureIsrael Defense Forces@IDF

⭕️ Earlier today, several suspects were spotted crossing the yellow line and approaching IDF troops in northern Gaza, a clear violation of the agreement. After multiple attempts to distance them, the suspects refused to comply, prompting troops to open fire to remove the threat. Reports of terrorists infiltrating an IDF position are incorrect. The IDF urges Gaza residents to follow instructions and keep their distance from IDF troops.

This is exactly like the failure of the first cease fire when the IDF and Netanyahu made up stuff every day to justify the other side causing them to need to be killed(in cold blood). It's never the IDF's fault.

As Trump celebrates 'peace' in the Middle East, what's really been resolved?

President Donald Trump celebrated the first steps of his ceasefire plan as the start of a "lasting harmony" — but experts say it is too soon for his declaration of "peace in the Middle East."

Over the weekend, Netanyahu maintained that Israel’s “campaign is not over” as he emphasized that “some of our enemies are trying to recover in order to attack us again.”

https://www.nbcnews.com/world/middle-east/trump-celebrates-peace-middle-east-really-resolved-rcna237487

Trump is completely delusional again in claiming that this peace is the start of a new Middle East where Israel and the Arab world get along with each other and live in harmony. Yes, he’s actually repeating this.

As I have been insisting, this 2 years of genocide against Palestinians has been the greatest recruitment tool for terrorists to justify actions for vengeance  against Israel in the past 2,000 years.

The indoctrinated hatred responsible for all the wars and fighting has, without question been strongly reinforced and is worse today than ever.

Who's fault was this the past 2 years?????

For Trump to think he is so omnipotent that he can wave his magic MAGA wand and decree that everybody will go live in peace and harmony now demonstrates, once again his compromised comprehension abilities and pathologically elevating his powers of infallibility.

It's amazing that even people who should know better but WANT TO BELIEVE him will buy into some of his most absurd schemes. Human emotions and cognitive bias will cause our brains to accept/believe things that WE WANT TO BELIEVE, instead of open minded  FACT CHECKING them for authenticity.

Trump's tune went from threatening Hamas with destruction, to bragging about how he ended the war and the entire Middle East will now have harmony forever because of him, to back to threatening Hamas with total destruction.

Israel slashes aid to Gaza as Trump threatens to 'violently' disarm Hamas

Less then one day has passed since Trump's victory lap in the Middle East, but his ceasefire saw early wobbles

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-slashes-aid-gaza-trump-says-threatens-violently-disarm-hamas

But Trump said the time was coming for Hamas to hand in their weapons.

“If they don’t disarm, we will disarm them, and it will happen quickly and perhaps violently,” he said.

Who takes this guy seriously?

Israel has been in Gaza with their IDF for 2 years. What does Trump think they've been doing all that time?

Now, Trump thinks they will suddenly throw down their weapons because of his big bad, bloviating words? If they don't do it, what is Trump going to do?

Send in the US military to disarm them?

That might be the most unpopular decision by a US president in history.

Never make serious threats to somebody if there is no chance you can carry them out and the party you are threatening KNOWS you can't carry it out.

That's the quickest way to lose credibility(which Trump doesn't have much of to start with-EXCEPT with Israel because they love it when he acts like this)
