As somebody in the midst of a months long recovery from a ruptured right quadriceps tendon that is still struggling just to walk down to the end of the driveway to pick mulberries with our 2 year old grandson.......this seems especially nuts!

There are apparently numerous heats/races/divisions.
There are very numerous injuries, some of them serious.
They have several ambulances there before it even starts. Apparently, at least 1 person had to take a helicopter for immediate life saving treatment.
It's one thing to break bones or rupture tendons but hitting your head hard on the ground puts you at a high risk of a serious brain bleed which can cause permanent brain damage at the least and death at the worst.
The risk to reward is the most lopsided to anything out there. They say that its been going on for 150 years.
I seriously think they should stop doing it!!
